This is the LAST WEEK OF SPELLING!
Week 27 due 5/18
Students
In School We will spend at least 15 minutes a day on Spelling Word Study. Take a peek at a typical weekly schedule below. My instructional videos can be viewed through Google Classroom all week long (and at home, too)! If you miss a day, you are expected to make up the work (Miss A will help you figure out the best way to do that!). At Home
You will have Friday-Thursday (7 nights) to complete menu activities each week to help you study the week's spelling patterns. The monthly menu will list activities you can complete. How you study is YOUR CHOICE, but at least 3 activities must be completed. Spelling Menus are required and are due at the end of each week. Your words will change, but the menu can be used all month long! Each activity is assigned a point value. Harder activities are worth more points. Use the table below to see how many Dojo Dollars you can earn each week. [[Late work is always accepted, but will have a 5 point penalty to the final grade, and no Dojo Dollars will be handed out for that menu.]] Click the button above to go to SPELLING CITY!
We utilize Spelling City to help students study their words online. An introductory letter will be sent home soon. Student will have plenty of opportunities to use it during school, but can also access everything at home! You can either visit their website or download the FREE app, where practice tests, games, and more are always available. Remember: You MUST log in to SpellingCity to access Premium Content. Log-in information will be written in your child's agenda. |
Parents
Fourth grade uses a program called "Words Their Way." This program encourages students to study patterns found within the word list they are given rather than just memorize a list of words. They must carefully consider the different sounds associated with the patterns as well as when words are exceptions to that particular rule. Sometimes the list will give an "oddball" or a word that seems to fit the rule, but really doesn't. In the beginning of the year, students are given a pre-test to help determine which spelling patterns they should study first. Your child is placed in a group and all lists sent home will be labeled with that group name. These lists are different from each other, so be sure all spelling lists have the correct group name listed for your child. We re-evaluate groups mid-year and also take a final look at progress at the end of the year. Students are expected to complete at least 1 Spelling Menu activity at home to help study the weekly pattern. The same menu will be used all month long and can be found on the back of the weekly list. Students can complete up to 100 points worth of activities each week. Please check their agenda if you have any questions about which menu to use. Extra copies can be found below! Monthly Spelling Menus:
